Zero clearance is generally used with a pivot hinge when there is no door frame at the top. The benefit is that it can be surface mounted onto the top header and does not need to be recessed.
Ideal for full height doors and wherever you need a seamless ceiling where the door fits into the space rather than it be made for a wall. This system is very popular amongst Architects and Interior designers who want to create a more minimalist feel to their interior fitouts.
In the case of a plaster reveal you will need to cut out a section of plaster the size of the top pivot and pack it out to the depth of the plasterboard so as not to crush the plaster when screwing the top section in.
